Living lab description

The living lab in Tanzania is located in the rural settings of Mwanza, Iringa, Kigoma, Ruvuma and Dodoma Region. Within the SESA project, the Tanzanian Living Lab is a replication site. Currently there is one company engaged through the Siemens Stiftung via the Call for Entrepreneurs to replicate the Irrigation as the services. This activity began in November 2023.

Living lab activities

The Tanzanian living lab, operating as a replication lab, is set to begin replicating Irrigation services with the support of a company through the Siemens Foundation, commencing from November 1st.

Description of the problem addressed

There are several challenges that the Tanzanian replication site is working to address

  • Firstly, the site has a different area of focus compared to the initial proposal. The site is focusing on solar irrigation while the original proposal suggested other productive uses of energy such as cold chain, energy for markets and cold value chain.
  • Secondly, location of the replication site has changed from the previous region from four to five to one technology in regions that we cannot decide ourselves.

Demonstration objectives

The replication site in Tanzania will be replicating a “pay as you go” system of solar powered irrigation alongside a company known as Simu Solar.
